Ever tried setting up a website with Wordpress or similar? Most of the common open source applications you will find are PHP-based. Tools like Wordpress power much of the internet and pre-date the popular website services you pay higher prices to maintain: Weebly, Squarespace, Wix, etc. <- Paying for these services is ridiculous, because hosting is not overly difficult.
- Running a Wordpress website is partner and coworker approved through Cpanel.
Thanks to hosting services, it is easy for anyone to purchase their own domain, pay for hosting, and then install a tool like Wordpress through Softaculous app store, which is used with web control panels such as Cpanel.
But, what if the application you want to install is PHP-based, but not available within Softaculous?
- Look through their catalog to confirm the application is not available.
- Review the project you are interested in to confirm it is PHP based.
- File a
support ticket
on the Softaculous website, requesting the application be made available. Include link to to any related github repos or other proof that the application is a nice choice.
- Be patient. 👀 This is how Softaculous eventually added Castopod to their catalog after it was requested.
Softaculous and Cpanel are an excellent hosted platforms for getting started in self-hosting.
