RSS is an open standard for receiving notifications. Think of it as a sort of newspaper, telling you whatever happened. Got an rss application you recommend? Or a way to use RSS that isn't currently covered below? Shout it out! Keep in mind RSS tools are only as useful as you allow them to be. Here are some tools I enjoy:

Newsboat, terminal application for Linux. newsboat/newsboat
Readrops mobile for Android, available on F-Droid. readrops/Readrops
RSSOwl, oldie but goldie on any computer. rssowl/RSSOwl

    RSS Server applications

    FreshRSS, FreshRSS/FreshRSS
    MiniFlux, miniflux/v2
    TinyTinyRSS, built for Docker. Gitlab
RSSbridge generates feeds for popular websites such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. Try it by clicking here RSS-Bridge/rss-bridge
Wallabag, save website links directly or as RSS to create your own personal archive of offline webpages. Extremely useful for when a saved article is deleted or otherwise taken offline. wallabag/wallabag
Archivebox is another internet archive tool. ArchiveBox/ArchiveBox
Floccus cross-platform browser bookmarking. floccusaddon/floccus. Supports local storage with Git, Google Drive, Webdav, and RSS through Nextcloud Bookmarks

Ways I'm using RSS for the podcast

RSS feeds are how podcasting works, and much more! You subscribe to a feed in whatever podcast app and begin listening. This means you can just as easily listen to the podcast from an RSS application as opposed to a dedicated podcasting app.

    • Read while offline!
    • No need to log into a service. Reclaim your time. Stop randomly browsing.
    • Read from wherever you prefer. Doom scroll a service you can customize to taste. 😆
    • Use feeds to synchronize services. Example, people in Matrix chat auto-notified when a new episode is out.
    • Curate your feeds through your preferred client, assuming filters are supported. This is the primary reason I do not recommend Nextcloud News. See nextcloud/newsdiscussions/797 and nextcloud/news589
      • Filters are mandatory if you are serious about RSS. How else will you manage the amount of information you are exposed to? Take charge of your own experience. 😃
      • Nothing stops you from using any combination of RSS services, so get creative!
